Books for April

This month I’m highlighting three books I keep for inspiration and reference.  These are the ones I come back to again and again when writing or starting a new design project.

Pantone The 20th Century in Color
by Leatrice Eiseman and Keith Recker

A large selection of key pieces of art, graphic design or objects from throughout the 20th century.  Each example includes the appropriate matching pantone colour key.

Essential reading if you need to add some historical accuracy to your colour scheme.

The writer’s block
by Jason Rekulak

Looking to just flex some writing muscles and do some warm up writing?   This little book can be flicked through and uses images, quotes and questions to inspire new pieces of writing.

Can take you in new directions, if you want to practice your craft or ‘get past writer’s block’.

New Hart’s Rules
The  handbook of style for writer’s and editors
Oxford

Pretty much does what it says on the tin.  An invaluable reference book for checking the rules of grammar and general writing and editing good practice.

Sits on my desk at all times for easy reach.
